ππ©βπ»My GHC experience!!π©βπ»π
π I was thrilled to be a part of the Boston University cohort for GHC attendees in person this year and the conference lived upto its name indeed! Surrounded by empowering and intelligent women and non-binary folk in Tech really gave me a new surge of energy and determination in making the most out of GHC this year. The career fair and expo of GHC was the main highlight of the conference for me, as the sheer scale of it was enough to intimidate anyone. On the contrary though, the inviting vibes and conversational tone of the many many companies I visited throughout the conference made it so easy to simply go up and have a quick chat!
π I had several fascinating conversations with industry professionals ranging from π©ββοΈAI in Healthcare at Analog Devices, πNever quitting research and constantly being challenged at Google DeepMind, βΎBaseball and Computer Vision at Major League Baseball (MLB), π©βπΌCareer growth opportunities as a new-grad at Google to an in-depth view of Tech in Consulting and Product Management at PwC. All the professionals, academics and peers I have made connections with at GHC truly play a part for having made my first GHC experience a memorable one. I was additionally excited with all the swag I was able to collect!
π Attending the Closing Plenary talk was truly the icing on the cake! Stellar personalities like Brenda Darden Wilkerson, President & CEO of Anita.B org, Aisha Bowe, Founder & CEO of STEMBoard, Tiffany A. Yu, MSc, and several others served as motivators to us fellow Women in Tech that the fight for equity, diversity and equal opportunities in the workplace is still on. As Grace Hopper once rightly said, “The most damaging phrase in the language is ‘It’s always been done that way’”. This, no doubt, struck a cord with several hearts that day, and I hope I am successful in having my technical expertise and work ethic recognised & valued. I also sincerely hope that biased perceptions of society towards women and non-binary people in Tech are slowly but surely changing.
π I am actively on the look-out for Full time opportunities in Data Science and Machine Learning and I am looking forward to connecting with any contacts and leads that also attended GHC! Please feel free to hit me up if you have any roles open!
π I have had an eye-opening and truly unique experience as a part of the #GHC this year and I hope my fellow attendees have as well. Let’s continue to make valuable connections and grow both professionally and as human beings!
